In short: A container is an open or partly enclosed vessel that mounts on the tractor's front loader boom the same way as a bucket. It suits hauling and temporarily storing loose, free-flowing or small-particle material, such as sand, grain, fertiliser or manure.
What is a loader container and when do you need one?
A container usually has higher walls than a bucket, and sometimes a partial cover on top, which stops material from spraying or spilling out during movement. Unlike a bucket, the container's purpose isn't to dig into ground, but to collect and transport material.
- Holds more material: the higher wall means more capacity than an open bucket of the same width.
- Keeps material together: less risk of liquid, light or free-flowing material spilling out during transport.
- Versatile use: suits hauling anything from fertiliser to grain to crushed stone, to a barn, silo or machine.
See the range on our tractor containers page.
Who is a loader container suited for?
- Farmers: hauling grain, fertiliser or seed between the storage building and the machine.
- Livestock farmers: hauling feed or bedding from the storage yard to the barn.
- Construction and landscaping companies: hauling sand, crushed stone and soil in smaller quantities around a site.
What should you think about before buying?
- Capacity: a bigger container holds more, but puts more strain on the tractor and boom reach.
- Material type: light, free-flowing material suits a container with higher walls, while heavy and sticky material is also worth checking for ease of unloading.
- Mount compatibility: the container must match the tractor's front loader mount, see our tractor attachments.
Container versus container hook
A container is meant for hauling material, not for emptying already filled large waste containers. For handling waste containers with a skid steer, see the separate solution on our container hook for a skid steer page.
