In short: A sand spreader bucket is a bucket with an internal rotor that throws sand, salt or crushed stone across a wide area. It's a faster and more even way to de-ice than spreading by hand or simply tipping loose material out of a bucket.
What is a sand spreader bucket and how does it work?
A spreader bucket is an enclosed bucket loaded with sand, gravel, salt or a mix of these. Inside, a hydraulically driven rotor or disc spins and throws material out through the bucket's opening. Spreading width and distance can often be adjusted.
- Even spreading: material spreads over a wider area and more evenly than simply pouring it out of a bucket.
- Speed: covering a large yard or several roads is many times faster than doing it by hand.
- Versatility: most spreader buckets handle sand, salt and crushed stone alike.
See the range on our skid steer sand spreader buckets page.
Who is this attachment suited for?
- Property and car park maintenance companies: responsible for winter de-icing over large areas.
- Municipalities and road maintenance firms: for de-icing pavements and smaller roads.
- Industrial sites and storage yards: where movement needs to be safe in the morning after overnight frost or snow.
What should you think about before buying?
- Capacity: a bigger capacity means less frequent reloading, but also a heavier full bucket for the machine.
- Hydraulic requirement: running the rotor needs auxiliary hydraulics on the machine - check it's there and powerful enough.
- Material moisture: very wet sand or clumped salt can clog the spreader, while dry material works better.
- Mount compatibility: the bucket must match the machine's quick-attach, see our loader mounts.
Alongside other winter attachments
De-icing is usually the final step after snow clearing. For pushing loose snow, see our V-plough; for breaking up packed ice, an ice bucket is the right tool. Many operations keep all three attachments on hand through the winter season and swap them onto the machine depending on road conditions.
We'll help you choose
Tell us how large an area you need to maintain and what material (sand, salt, crushed stone) you usually use. We'll help you choose the right capacity and check that the machine's hydraulics are a match. Get in touch via our contact page.
Tell us your machine's make and model - we'll help you find the right attachment. We are the official importer of SE Equipment in Estonia.
