In short: Manitou telehandlers are common machines on construction sites, in agriculture and in warehouses, and their versatility comes precisely from their attachments. Before ordering an attachment, you need to know the machine's mounting system, its hydraulic capabilities, and what the attachment actually needs to do. A poorly chosen attachment makes the work slow or the machine unstable, while the right one turns a single machine into several tools.
Why a Manitou telehandler needs a well-considered attachment
The telehandler's biggest advantage is boom reach and lift height, giving it a range that an ordinary wheel loader doesn't have. That's exactly why Manitou machines are chosen when you need to lift high, load far away, or work in a tight space where an excavator won't fit. The attachment is what determines whether you actually use that potential or not.
The same machine might move pallets in a warehouse one day and load material from a trailer or lift pallets on a construction site the next. That calls for different attachments, not a single universal solution.
Where to start when choosing an attachment
- Mounting system: Manitou machines use their own mount, though adapters for other systems are also available on the market. Confirm before ordering which mount your machine has, so the attachment goes straight on.
- Hydraulics: many attachments, such as tilting buckets or grapples, need the machine's auxiliary hydraulics to work. Check whether the machine has a free hydraulic outlet and what its flow rate is.
- Machine lift capacity: a telehandler's lift capacity decreases as the boom extends. A heavy attachment with a heavy load far out on the boom can exceed the machine's limit before you've even loaded anything.
- Nature of the work: pallets moved in a warehouse call for a different solution than hauling concrete mix or gravel on a construction site.
The most common attachments for Manitou machines
Most Manitou owners start with pallet forks and a general-purpose bucket, since these cover most everyday tasks. From there, equipment is added as the work demands.
- Pallet forks: for moving goods and materials in a warehouse or on site, our telehandler attachments cover several variants and capacities.
- General-purpose bucket and grading bucket: for loading soil, gravel and other bulk material and for leveling surfaces, see our grading buckets.
- Tilting and lifting grapples: for specific tasks such as lifting logs, rolls or larger components.
- Seasonal attachments: for snow clearing and other seasonal work, it's worth choosing an attachment that mounts quickly onto the existing fitting.
Common mistakes when choosing an attachment
- Size isn't checked against the machine's load chart: a loader's lift capacity at full boom extension is much lower than close in. A large attachment with a large load far out doesn't work safely.
- Hydraulics aren't checked in advance: a tilting or hydraulically opening attachment requires a matching line on the machine and controls in the cab.
- A universal solution is bought where a specific one is needed: a general-purpose bucket does nowhere near the same job as the right grapple or fork.
How Jaegel can help
If you have a Manitou telehandler and aren't sure which attachment suits it, send us the machine's make, model and a description of the work. We'll go through the mount, hydraulics and suitable dimensions together. Our range also covers other machines, such as wheel loader and excavator attachments, if your fleet includes more than one machine. Get in touch via our contact page.
Tell us your machine's make and model - we'll help you find the right attachment. We are the official importer of SE Equipment in Estonia.
