In short: A cable drum lifter is a spindle-type attachment that raises a heavy cable drum and lets it rotate freely while the cable is paid out. Instead of lifting and repositioning by hand, the operator controls it directly from the cab.

Why is lifting a heavy drum a problem of its own?

Large cable drums can weigh enough that lifting and supporting their rotation by hand is dangerous and awkward. If the drum doesn't rotate properly, the cable can kink, twist or snap, damaging the material and slowing the work.

When do you need a cable drum lifter?

Electrical and telecom cable installation: laying a cable route where cable is paid out from the drum into a trench continuously.
Large-volume cable work: where the drums' weight and diameter make manual handling impractical.
Recurring use on multiple sites: if cable work is done regularly, the attachment saves time and reduces manual labor.

How does the attachment work in practice?

The lifter mounts on the excavator's quick coupler, a spindle passes through the drum's center hole, and the machine lifts the drum clear of the ground. From the cab, you control how taut and how fast the cable is paid out, without anyone needing to hold the drum steady.

What should you check when choosing?

Load capacity: must match the heaviest drum you typically handle.
Spindle diameter and adjustment: must fit the center hole of drums of different sizes.
Quick coupler: compatibility with the machine's quick coupler matters just as much as with other attachments.
