Landscaping Attachments - From Stone Walls to Mulching

Landscaping work needs several different attachments - from lifting stones to leveling soil. See which excavator and loader attachments do the most work in landscaping.

In short: Landscaping work changes several times over the course of a day - you dig, lift stones, level soil and haul mulch or topsoil. One machine can handle all of these tasks if you have the right set of attachments ready for the quick coupler.

Why landscaping work needs several attachments

A landscaping project is never a single task. On the same site you dig planting holes, lift stones suitable for stone wall construction, level the soil for lawn and finally haul mulch or screened topsoil to the beds. If you have the right attachment for each task, you don't have to leave the machine idle and switch to manual labor.

Digging and handling stones

A standard digging bucket works for planting holes and smaller trenches, while a stone bucket is better for sorting stones from coarser material - finer soil falls through the gaps in the bucket and only the larger stones remain. This is useful when stones need to be collected separately from the site, for example to build a stone wall.

  • Stone bucket: sorts stone from soil as you dig, saving manual screening. See the range on our excavator stone buckets page.
  • Digging bucket: the main tool for digging planting holes and smaller trenches, see our digging bucket range.
  • Grapples: for lifting and moving larger stones and stumps that don't fit in a bucket.

Leveling soil and hauling material

Before laying a lawn or installing paving, the soil needs to be even. This is where a leveling bucket comes in, spreading and smoothing the soil into an even layer without you having to go over it by hand with a rake.

  • Leveling bucket: spreads and evens out a layer of soil, mulch or sand, see our leveling bucket.
  • Light material bucket: larger volume for hauling soil, mulch and wood chips, since these materials are light, see our light material buckets.

Mulching and bed maintenance

Hauling mulch and screened topsoil between beds is bulky but light work, so a larger bucket that doesn't need much power from the machine, just more room, works well here. If mulch also needs to be spread on uneven ground, it's worth considering a leveling bucket to keep the layer even and reduce manual finishing.

What to buy first

A landscaping company just starting out usually needs only two or three attachments: a digging bucket, a stone bucket and a leveling bucket or light material bucket. That covers most of the work - digging, sorting stones and finishing the soil - without needing a separate machine or manual labor for each type of task. See the full range on our all attachments page.
